Who Will Set The Style Trends in 2011?

There are some celebs who always seem to get it right style wise. Others seem to bounce back and forth between occasional moments of brilliance and style horrors. It is quite likely that the fashion stars will continue to shine next year. The following names might just stay ahead of the pack next year when it comes to fashion:

Victoria Beckham: The wife of soccer star David Beckham was once the ambassador for fashion house Dolce and Gabbana. Having her own fashion line now means she must always be looking her best on and off the red carpet. She is widely recognized as a style icon, and is one of the most frequently photographed celebrities in the world.

Kate Moss: This supermodel rarely skips a style beat, managing to shine with even the most casual of looks. As she continues to market her latest fragrance, fans will continue to pay close attention to what she wears.

Michelle Obama: There’s no reason to think the first lady will let her sense of fashion slide next year. After all, she still has a reputation to uphold. She has already graced the covers of magazines like Good Housekeeping and Vogue. She might just manage to fit a few more into her busy schedule in the coming months.

Kanye West: Love him or hate him, there is no denying this rapper’s sense of style. Fans pay as much attention to what he wears as they do to his lyrics. Next year he will probably continue to attract attention for his fashion, new releases and his sometimes controversial behavior.

Style watchers will probably pay attention to other big names like Eva Longoria, Leighton Meester, Kim Kardashian and Sienna Miller among others. There might not be another Sex and the City movie planned but Sarah Jessica Parker will continue to be influential in the style arena. Not to be overshadowed is some of the up and coming starlets in Hollywood.

Are TV Style Shows a Good Thing?

Fashion, and in particular celebrity fashion has such a major social impact it is often the subject of intense media focus. There are a number of shows dedicated to this topic offering everything from simple style tips to full beauty makeovers. Not surprisingly, these shows and their themes do have their detractors. Some shows verge on the more controversial side in a bid to attract viewers.

Style Show Controversies

One of the most common criticisms of these shows is that they promote unrealistic expectations among viewers. Some programs go one step beyond style makeovers and offer cosmetic procedures to make a whole new you. Critics argue this goes against the principle of self acceptance. There are of course those who argue that people who are unhappy with the way they look should be able to change it.

Some also feel that TV style shows often push their own agendas, promoting certain designers or styles. For others, TV style shows are good sources of ideas. Still, there is nothing wrong with getting a heads up on what celebs are wearing. It makes a lot of sense to strike a balance between celebs you admire and your own sense of self expression. This is especially so for teenagers and young adults so are generally guided by what they see on TV.

There are shows created especially for those wanting to revamp their style on a budget. They address many issues commonly experienced by both men and women. These include dressing to suit your body type and finding fashion bargains. One thing is certain, style shows are here to stay, regardless of criticism. They are enormously popular even among people who don’t necessarily follow celebrity fashion trends. Each style show tends to offer its own theme and format, so viewers will always have their pick of advice on what to wear and when to wear them.

While the concept of seasonal fashion is widely accepted there is another side to always looking stylish. The fact is, some things simply never go out of style, which can be a big help to the stylistically challenged among us. Some things make it easy to look our best. We can use them without giving it too much thought. For style experts, some of these things are must haves in our fashion line-up. These include:

•The little black dress – this is considered essential for every woman. It can be worn for just about every occasion or setting. The fact that black is a slimming color helps too.
•Sunglasses – the styles and shades may evolve, but the basic idea remains the same. In fact, they are often worn not for sun protection but to complete the overall look.
•Denim – this basic item has now gone mainstream, with top brands enlisting the aid of top celebrities to promote them. Jeans can be paired with stylish sweaters or simple t-shirts. This is one classic that will never go out of style.
•Handbags – women are never seen without them because they can carry so many essentials like makeup and their change purse. Aside from that, they also help to bring off whatever outfit they happen to be wearing. This is why so much thought is put into getting just the right handbag.
•Self confidence – this can be the biggest fashion essential of all. For style watchers the right amount can turn even a fashion no-no into an attention getter. This may explain why Lady Gaga always goes all out to express her sense of style.

These simple fashion tools work for celebrities and average folks alike. Anyone looking to upgrade their fashion repertoire should consider adding one or more of these for style success.

Blending Fashion and Social Responsibility

Even the fashion landscape has not escaped the green movement. In fact, in some ways this is one area where the green movement has had much influence dating back to the sixties and the hippies. Cotton was the order of the day as it was seen as being more earth-friendly.

Today, there are many ways in which human beings are showing their commitment to protecting the environment while remaining fashionable. Pamela Anderson of Baywatch fame easily comes to mind as fitting this category perfectly. She is an avid PETA supporter and goes all out to protest against the wearing of real fur.

This move has given a real boost to the sale of fake fur. Interestingly, it is sometimes difficult to tell the real deal from the fake. Some designers are known for the quality of the fake fur coats and items they make. They are just as fashionable, sometimes even more so than genuine fur.

This is one area where fashion and social responsibility meet. Many people and organizations refuse to wear or use anything that results in the death of an animal. This coming together of ethical responsibility and fashion goes far beyond the efforts of PETA, however.

Some people take it a step further by recycling old clothes to make other items such as dust rags. Some especially creative types even take parts of old garments to make a new outfit.

There are other ways where fashion and the environment converge for the greater good. One of these is the buying of clothing, accessories and other personal items only from companies that have a commitment to environmental protection. This is such a big issue that many companies now have an environmental policy or statement in place. This is necessary as many consumers will not do business with a company that does not have a strong environmental stance.
